How to Set up Webhooks in GitLab

GitLab is the complete DevOps platform, delivered as a single application. Streamline your development, operations, and security workflows with powerful tools for version control, CI/CD, monitoring, and more. GitLab helps teams collaborate more effectively, speed up delivery cycles, and enhance productivity. From planning to production, manage your entire DevOps lifecycle seamlessly with GitLab.

In this article, we’ll understand how to set up webhooks in GitLab to receive notifications on a webhook URL.

Setting Up Webhook in GitLab

  1. Login to your GitLab account.
  1. In your project or group, on the left sidebar, select Settings > Webhooks.
  1. Click on the “Add new webhook” button.
  1. Copy the Webhook URL from the trigger flyout and paste it into the ‘URL’ field.
  1. Optional: In ‘Name,’ enter the name of the webhook. In ‘Description,’ enter the description of the webhook.
  1. In the Trigger section, select the checkbox corresponding to the GitLab event that matches your desired trigger. For example, if you are setting up a webhook for the ‘Issue Events’ trigger, then you should select the ‘Issue Events’ from the trigger section.
  1. Optional. Clear the Enable SSL verification checkbox to disable SSL verification.
  1. Click on the “Add webhook” button.

That’s it! You have successfully added a webhook to your GitLab account.
